About the 2017 Indiana Nonprofits Survey

What challenges are Indiana nonprofits facing today? How are they dealing with information technology, government policies, and other changes coming their way? How do these patterns vary by field of activity, size, or funding profile? That is what we are hoping to find out from our 2017 Indiana Nonprofits Survey.

The survey closed in early 2018 and is part of the multi-year Indiana Nonprofits Project: Scope and Community Dimensions. This project has documented the many important ways in which Indiana nonprofits contribute to the state and local communities. The project aims to help state and local leaders determine how best to support and strengthen Indiana nonprofit organizations.

Who administered the survey?

The Indiana Nonprofit Survey, led by Kirsten Grønbjerg, is a joint effort by the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University Bloomington and the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IUPUI. The survey was designed to collect information about the many different kinds of nonprofits in Indiana (more than 60,000 in all): how they operate, what services they deliver, and what challenges they face.

The survey was administered by the Center for Survey Research (CSR). The CSR is a research organization on the Indiana University Bloomington campus that specializes in scientific and confidential research projects such as this.
