Comprehensive Nonprofit Database
In 2001 we constructed a comprehensive database of Indiana nonprofits, using a unique methodology that combines a variety of data sources. Several papers and reports based on these efforts describe what we have learned about the composition of the Indiana nonprofit sector and about the challenges involved in working with different types of nonprofit listings. This work began in Fall 1999 and was completed in August 2001 with updates in 2002, 2004, and 2005. A searchable, web-based listing of Indiana nonprofits from our database (based on the 2005 update) is now available here, hosted by the Indiana Business Research Center.
The database was also updated in April 2013 by the Indiana Business Research Center (IBRC) using listings from (1) the Internal Revenue Service list of registered tax-exempt entities with Indiana reporting addresses, (2) the Indiana Secretary of State list of nonprofit incorporated entities, and (3) other listings maintained by the Indiana Business Research Center, including religious congregations. However, despite best efforts by the IBRC and us, we caution that the updated listing most likely includes some erroneous entries and that it is almost certainly incomplete. Please contact the Indiana Business Research Center (email@example.com) with corrections or additions to the database listing.
